The only thing True Detective fans know about season two is that Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson will not be back, so the speculation of who will star has already started. While HBO and creator Nic Pizzolatto have not said anything, there’s a new rumor that Brad Pitt is one of the names that have popped up.
A source told Hollywood Life that Pitt’s name has come up more than once, but it all depends on his other projects. “It’s the show everyone wants to be on, because the writing and the roles are just so exquisite and complex,” the source said.
The site’s source points out that Pitt has worked with HBO before, since he’s credited as a producer on Ryan Murphy’s The Normal Heart.
While Pitt may sound like an outrageous choice for a TV show, it’s important to remember that McConaughey doing a TV show sounded shocking before he did True Detective and gave an acclaimed performance. We did put Pitt on our list of actors we would like to see in season two. It's more likely that after McConaughey, the casting possibilities for season two is wide open.
The last episode of season one drew 3.5 million viewers. Overall, the show and its multiple airings averaged 11 million viewers.
Pitt was last seen in 12 Years A Slave, which earned him a Best Picture Oscar as producer on the film. He just finished making a World War II movie with Shia LaBeouf.
