'Divergent' actor Theo James trained hard for role

By Rebekah Penner ,

Theo James didn’t waste any time. Playing the role of Tobias ‘Four’ Eaton in the new film, Divergent, James trained for a month to perform the stunts for the film.

Working to act and look the part, James wanted to certify his character’s leadership with a strong physical authority on screen.

“We had a month of training, which was great. I wanted my character ‘Four,
to have a powerful presence physically so you felt you didn’t want to mess with him!” James told We Love Pop magazine, according to Contact Music.

As previously reported, the former Downton Abbey actor landed the main role of the film a year ago. He joined the cast of Shailene Woodley, Kate Winslet, Ansel Elgort, Maggie Q, Zoe Kravitz, and Jai Courtney.

Divergent takes place in a futuristic world where people are placed into groups based on their personality traits. James’ character leads the group of ‘divergents’ who fit into any of the groups, but have many people working to kill them.

Divergent opens in theaters on March 21.
