Doctor accused of sexually assaulting elderly disabled patients

By Elaine Alluin,

A doctor from Illinois is being accused of sexually assaulting a total of eleven patients who were elderly or disabled.

The Huffington Post identifies the perpetrator as 59-year-old Dr. Charles Dehaan of the Rockford, III.

NBC Chicago added that Dehaan is being charged with felonies that include aggravated criminal sexual assault and aggravated criminal sexual assault against a physically handicapped person. His bond was set at $250,000.

The Chicago Tribune reported that Dehaan allegedly started making in-home visits to a 59-year-old woman from Des Plaines who was recovering from surgery.

The police reported that Dehaan allegedly started fondling the woman’s breast and genital area. Dehaan then proceeded to show the victim his arousal. He continued the assault until July 2012.

Des Plaines Police Department Cmdr. Randy Akin said due to the patient’s condition, she was unable to stop the in-home visits.

The woman from Des Plaines came forward after hearing about Dehaan being suspected of engaging in inappropriate sexual contact with elderly patients between 2009 and 2013.

In addition, Dehaan is also facing federal indictment for Medicare fraud.
