'Hunger Games: Catching Fire' sees increase in digital sales

Sales up 40% over first film in the franchise

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire has just been released on DVD and Blu-ray and the film is already seeing a 40 percent increase in digital sales over the first film that was released by Lionsgate.

To date, Catching Fire has sold 3.9 million copies on DVD and Blu-ray compared with Hunger Games was which was released on DVD back in August of 2012, Variety reported.

Lionsgate did report that 50 percent of all packed media sales for Fire were from Blu-ray. Hunger Games only had 35 percent of packed media sales go to Blu-ray when it was released.

Even though not many details around the digital sales have been released Catching Fire was the most downloaded film across a variety of platforms including; iTunes, Microsoft Xbox, Amazon Instant Video, Walmart’s Vudu, Comcast Xfinity, Verizon FiOS, Google Play and Sony Entertainment Network.

Digital Sales as a whole have been increasing for films. Following their best picture win at the Oscars 12 Years a Slave saw an increase in digital sales. The film has also seen an increase in illegal downloads as well, Time reported.
