Another member of the influential punk band The Stooges has died early in life. Scott Asheton, the band's drummer, died Sunday at the age of 64.
Although the cause of his death is unknown at this time, frontman Iggy Pop, remembered the drummer in a Facebook post Sunday saying, “I have never heard anyone play the drums with more meaning than Scott Asheton. He was like my brother. He and Ron have left a huge legacy to the world. The Ashetons have always been and continue to be a second family to me.”
He added, "My thoughts are with his sister Kathy, his wife Liz and his daughter Leanna, who was the light of his life."
Additionally the band’s publicist, Nasty Little Map confirmed the news, the Detroit Free Press reported.
Iggy Pop is now the lone survivor of the band that combined 60’s rock with a mix of punk that followed. Asheton’s brother, the group's guitarist Ron Asheton, died at 60 back in 2009 as previously reported.
Asheton had been in poor health throughout the past years, friends told the Free Press on Sunday. He was forced out of a scheduled concert in Paris in 2011 due to an undisclosed illness.
