While explaining why Jennifer Lawrence was asking the audience what they were laughing at during the Oscars Sunday, Jared Leto suggested that Lawrence may have been putting on an act.
Leto, who picked up an Oscar for his supporting part in Dallas Buyers Club, told Access Hollywood that Lawrence was referring to something Ellen DeGeneres was doing offscreen in the crowd. Lawrence, who didn’t win an Oscar, was on stage to present Best Actor and suddenly asked, “Why are you laughing? What, is this funny? I’m still watching you!”
Lawrence was talking to Leto and his family and they just burst into laughter. The 30 Seconds to Mars frontman said that DeGeneres was trying to tell Lawrence to make sure she didn’t fall. What Lawrence “didn’t know was that Ellen was on the side…making, pantomiming [motions like], ‘Don’t fall, don’t fall,’ and my mom and my brother are all cracking up,” Leto said.
“I guess we don’t have any manners. You can take them out of Louisiana but you can’t take Louisiana out of them, right?” Leto joked.
DeGeneres was not only referring to last year’s now-iconic trip at the Oscars, but also Lawrence’s red carpet fall on Sunday. “You know, I'm starting to wonder if this is a bit of an act,” Leto joked, notes E! News.
Meanwhile, Leto has also revealed that he has damaged his Oscar already. While chatting with ET Canada, Leto said that he put it in his kitchen.
“I was letting some of the people that I work with take a picture with the Oscar and I was carrying it down the stairs and, boom, I hit it against the stairs, the railing and I put a little nick in the back of it… so you know, that’s how it goes,” he said. “It’s already lived in, as they say.”
