Jeremy Renner, the only member of the main American Hustle cast not nominated for an Oscar, will be back on the big screen in October. Universal’s Focus Features announced today that Kill The Messenger will be released in October.
Renner was cast in the film in February 2013 and stars as journalist Gary Webb. The late San Jose Mercury News had been writing about a CIA operation that armed Nicaraguan rebels where were bringing cocaine into the country. The CIA smeared his reputation and he committed suicide at age 48 in 2004.
According to ComingSoon.net, Renner has a sterling supporting cast that includes Rosemarie DeWitt, Mary Elizabeth Winestead, Michael Sheen, Robert Patrick and Oliver Platt.
Focus, which acquired the film shortly after Renner joined, will be releasing the film in select locations on Oct. 10. It will expand on Oct. 17 and Oct. 24.
Kill The Messenger was directed by Michael Cuesta (Homeland, Dexter)
Renner has been nominated for Oscars for performances in The Hurt Locker and The Town. He is currently a part of three franchises, Avengers, Mission: Impossible and Bourne.
