Joan Rivers has broken her ban from The Tonight Show 26 years after she was exiled from the show by Johnny Carson. Her ban continued all throughout Jay Leno’s tenure but on Thursday, she finally returned with new host Jimmy Fallon.
Rivers was banned from the show due to getting her own show, which Carson did not approve of. She said it was “very special” to be back and even praised Carson for changing her life.
"I had been working for eight years in Greenwich Village and nothing. And (Johnny) said — God bless him — 'You're going to be a star.’ It changed my life,” she told Fallon, Today.com reports.
Rivers, now 80, of course showed off her colorful personality on the show – dropping the F-bomb at the start of her segment when explaining why she was late.
Before the show, Rivers joked to Variety she was on the show “four noses ago.”
“The last time I was on the show, Melissa was in diapers,” she said of her daughter. “Now, I’m in diapers.”
