John C. Reilly has joined the cast of The Lobster, a sci-fi story that will be Dogtooth director Yorgos Lanthimos’ first film in English. Rachel Weisz and Colin Farrell have already signed on.
The project was first announced in February and is set in a dystopian future where humans are matched with partners to live. The Greek director co-wrote the script with Efthimis Filippou and shooting began last week in Ireland.
Ben Whishaw, Lea Seydoux, Olivia Colman, Ariane Labed and Aggeliki Papoulia are also slated to star. According to Variety, Reilly is not the only new castmember, as Ashley Jensen, Michael Smiley and Jessica Barden also joined on Monday.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the studios behind the film are Element Pictures, Limp and Scarlet Films and Tessa Ross and Sam Lavender of Film4 are the executive producers. Protagonist Pictures of the UK is handling international sales.
