Justin Bieber’s tattoo artist, Big Bang, has revealed that he tattooed the 20-year-old pop star on a private flight from Panama to Canada in January. Inking him at 40,000 feet altitude breaks the Guinness World record for highest altitude tattoo.
Big Bang, based out of New York City, told the Daily News that it was “difficult” to tattoo a cross on his chest and the word “Forgive” on his stomach in those conditions. This all happened in the same week as Bieber’s DUI arrest in Miami.
“It was really difficult. The plane was shaking, so it’s like trying to do a tattoo while you’re driving over rocks . . . and so I have to compensate and be so, so accurate,” he explained. “I’ve gotta admit that my adrenaline was through the roof. I didn’t anticipate it would be so difficult.”
He went on to explain that the pilot would warn them if turbulence was going to be coming up and they were trying to find “pockets” to ensure smoothness. He also said since they filmed and documented it, he’s hoping to get it recognized in the Guinness World books because he heard the highest altitude that it’s happened in so far is 35,000 feet.
“This was the most difficult tattoo I've ever done for sure,” he said, adding that he sketched them during the flight.
Daily Mail notes Big Bang noted that Bieber wanted the meaning behind his “forgive” tattoo to be “Forgiveness is powerful, forgive as Jesus died on the cross to forgive our sins.”
