Man arrested after climbing White House fence

By Erica Albanese,

A man who climbed over the White House fence was quickly caught and arrested Sunday.

According to Secret Service spokesman Brian Leary, the man climbed over the fence Sunday at approximately 3:55 p.m. He was immediately captured on the north lawn and arrested, the Associated Press reported.

No further details regarding the incident or the suspect are being disclosed at this time.

The White House went into lockdown, which is a routine procedure when there is a sign of a possible security breach.

Charges are pending while the suspect remains in custody, likely at the Metropolitan Police Department, UPI reported.

President Obama had returned to Washington on Saturday after a trip abroad and was said to be home at the time.

This is not the first time the White House has experienced this kind of incident. Last month, the White House went into lockdown after a man carrying two bags attempted to scale the fence.
