There was not a sweet sound to be found at the South By Southwest festival on Thursday. Rashad Charjuan Owens, 21, has been charged with one count of capital murder after smashing his car through a street barricade at the event.
According to USA Today, authorities say Owens did not attempt to use his brakes and accelerated through the crowds during the drunk driving incident.
As a result, Owens killed a man and a woman, and injured 23 others, according to NBC.
While a police officer was trying to pull Owens over, Austin Police Chief Art Acevedo said Owens intentionally drove towards pedestrians in an attempt to escape the officer, USA Today also reported.
As a result of his actions, Owens could be charged with another capital murder and faced with 23 counts of aggravated assault on a vehicle.
For the time being, Owens remains in jail with bail set at $3 million.
A warrant shows that Owens intoxication level was at .114, very above the legal limit of .08 after a breath test was issued after the arrest.
