Paramount is hoping to work with Michael Bay again. The studio has acquired a pitch for an underwater adventure film for Bay to produce and possibly direct.
The project was first reported on by The Hollywood Reporter. There’s no details or even title for the project, other than the fact that it takes place underwater and is set to be a thriller. Tom Wheeler (Puss in Boots, The Cape) and Robbie Thompson (Supernatural) will be writing the script.
Bay would produce under his Platinum Dunes banner with his producing partners, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form. Wheeler will co-produce.
Bay has just completed work on Transformers 4: Age of Extinction, which opens on June 27. Before that, he ventured outside of the big-budget blockbuster arena for Pain & Gain. Both films were made for Paramount.
Platinum Dunes is quickly becoming one of the most productive companies in Hollywood, as it is also overseeing the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot and the upcoming Welcome to Yesterday. The studio also recently moved into TV with Starz’ Black Sails and TNT’s The Last Ship.
