An Amber Alert has been issued for an 11-year-old girl after her mother was found dead in their Baltimore County, Md. home.
According to The Baltimore Sun, police believe that Caitlyn Marie Virts’ father, Timothy Virts, 38, may have abducted the girl and on Friday they obtained a warrant for his arrest.
"He is not supposed to have her, and we are concerned for her safety," said police spokeswoman Elise Armacost.
Just after 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, police arrived to the home to find Bobbie Jo Cortez, 36, dead inside. The cause of death has not yet been determined.
NBC Washington noted that investigators have said that Cortez lived in the home with her three children and for the past several weeks, the girl’s father. Someone in the home found Cortez's body and noticed that both Caitlyn and her dad were missing.
Authorities say that Caitlyn is 5 feet tall, weighs about 80 pounds and may be wearing eyeglasses. Timothy Virts is 6-foot-3 and weighs about 280 pounds.
Police are also looking for a late-nineties black Dodge Durango with Maryland tags, plate No. 5AJ4458.
