MTV announces its nominees for the Movie Awards

By Marcina Zaccaria ,

Through a busy awards season, sometimes the winning streak continues. The Movie Award nominees have been announced by MTV.

The MTV Movie Awards are usually a lighthearted look at some of the favorite movies of the year. American Hustle and The Wolf of Wall Street received the most nominations for the MTV Movie Awards. Other films include 12 Years a Slave and The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.

The difference in the MTV Movie Awards is fan voting. The winners are decided by internet voting, which will run through Saturday, April 12. The coveted Movie of the Year award will be voted on during the live broadcast of the show.

There were some surprises in the nomination cycle. Gravity, the Alfonso Cuaron movie that has been making a splash with fans and critics alike, is only taking one nod from the MTV crowd. According to Variety, Sandra Bullock has been nominated for Best Female Performance.

The MTV Movie Awards will be hosted by talk show host, Conan O’Brien. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the show, broadcast live from the Nokia Theatre, will take place on Sunday, April 13. It will be broadcast live on MTV beginning at 9pm.
