Legendary rocker Neil Young is set to debut his new PonoMusic program after several years of development.
Music Times reported that Young is set to launch his new project on Kickstarter starting March 15.
PonoMusic is a digital music initiative that will offer higher resolution music through a digital distribution method, similar to the iTunes music store, and a new PonoPlayer MP3 player, which can hold up to 100-500 high-resolution digital albums.
“It’s about the music, real music. We want to move digital music into the 21st century and PonoMusic does that. We couldn’t be more excited about bringing PonoMusic to the market,” said Young in a statement reported by USA Today.
The change of music quality in the digital age is something that has interested and concerned Young for the last number of years. He even covered it as a topic in his 2012 memoir Waging Heavy Peace.
The PonoPlayer will be available for a retail price of $399.99. Young is also set to talk about PonoMusic at this year’s South by Southwest.
