The Provo, Utah indie, alternative rock band Neon Trees' lead singer Tyler Glenn revealed that he is gay.
Glenn opened up to the new issue Rolling Stones and said that he knew that he was gay from a very young age.
"I've always felt like I'm an open book, and yet obviously I haven't been completely," said Glenn.
Glenn went on to talk about his first gay experience, and how being open about his sexuality put strain on his conservative Mormon religion.
"I had my crushes on guys throughout high school, but it was never an overwhelming thing until my twenties," said Glenn. "Then I'd be dating girls and in love with my straight friend and it was the worst feeling in the world."
Glenn then talked about his religion’s view on homosexuality.
"We were always taught, and I hate this word, 'tolerance,'” said Glenn. "The only time that felt different was when the Prop 8 thing came up."
Radio.com added that the singer said he was happy to see sports starts start coming out. He said he thought it was "cool" when Michael Sam said he wanted to be able to "hold hands with my boyfriend" after he came out.
Neon Trees will start off their U.S. tour on May 12 in Nashville, Tenn. Their tour dates can be found on their website.
