Jordie Callahan, 27, and Jessica Hunt, 32, an Ohio couple, were convicted of holding a mentally challenged mother and her child hostage, forcing them into labor and feeding them dog food, from 2011 to 2012.
According to Reuters, Callahan threatened to kill the mother with a Burmese python if she did not clean the couple’s apartment, engage in sexual acts with him, and watch the numerous animals that occupied the apartment.
Prosecutors also used testimony from two people connected to the case, Daniel Brown and Dezerah Silsby. Brown pleaded guilty to helping enslave the woman and her child, and Silsby pleaded guilty to luring the mother and child back to the house with ice cream, according to the Associated Press.
Callahan and Hunt also beat the woman so that she could get pain medication for them, along with making her eat dog food and crawl around on the floor.
The investigation began when authorities caught the mother shoplifting.
The couple with be sentenced sometime in July.
