On Tuesday, the second day of the Oscar Pistorius murder trial, the court heard exchanges between the prosecution’s first witness, Michelle Burger and defense attorney Barry Roux.
According to ABC News, Roux tried to poke holes in Burger’s testimony from the previous day and attacked her credibility.
Burger testified that she was awakened in the middle of the night on Feb. 14, 2013 by “bloodcurdling” screams and gunshots.
CNN noted that the defense said that Burger and her husband had almost identical statements and accused her of using his statement to construct her own.
Burger, a university lecturer, was brought to tears after Roux was done with his questioning.
The prosecution will be calling more of Pistorius’ neighbors to the stand in the coming days to testify about what they heard on the night in question.
The former Olympian and double amputee has admitted to fatally shooting his model girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp on Valentine's Day last year, but says that he mistook her for an intruder.
The highly publicized murder trial is expected to continue a few more weeks.
