Former Medium star Patricia Arquette has been cast in the lead role for the new CBS CSI spin-off pilot.
She will play a cyber-psychologist and FBI Special Agent Avery Ryan who leads Quantico's Cyber Crime Division, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Her character will have to deal with crimes that first begin on the Internet before they spill out into the real world.
Arquette hasn't been on TV much since her NBC show Medium ended after seven seasons. She did appear, for a several episodes, in the HBO show Boardwalk Empire and will be in the Martin Scorsese film The Wannabe.
As previously reported, the plan is for the pilot to be done as backdoor pilot that will air later in the spring. Anthony Zuiker created the show and will write the pilot with Carol Mendelsohn and Ann Donahue. They will also all executive produce, along with Jerry Bruckheimer and Jonathan Littman.
The CSI spin-off was inspired by real-life cyber-psychologist Mary Aiken. She is also on board to executive produce.
The CSI spin-off is joined by a new NCIS spin-off that was announced in February and will star Scott Bakula.
