Pharrell took the stage at the Oscars to perform his nominated song 'Happy'

Singer Pharrell Williams performed his nominated song “Happy" at the Academy Awards on March 2.

Williams performed his song from Despicable Me 2 while wearing his large hat.

As earlier reported by the New York Daily News, he decided to ditch the stage and work his way through the crowd, dancing amongst famous friends such as Lupita Nyong’o and Meryl Streep. Streep danced with Williams by doing a shimmy while even Amy Adams shook her hips and tossed her arms into the air.

Dancers of all ages were present on stage, including Jamie Foxx’s daughter, Corinne, according to Rolling Stone. The dancers were dressed in the 1950's attire from the movie Grease.

Williams sported a hat similar to the signature hat he wore at the Grammys, which created a buzz all on its own, inspiring the creation of a parody account on Twitter. The hat he wore to the Grammys was auctioned off for his charity, One Hand to Another.

Williams told The Hollywood Reporter that the chapeau was designed by Vivienne Westwood, saying that it “would’ve been really stylin’ if I had one from the ’80s.”
