On Friday, photos of Oscar Pistorius standing on his prosthetic legs with blood up to his knees were shown in court.
According to USA Today, police photographs show the Paralympian standing on his blood-stained prosthetic legs and wearing shorts covered in blood.
The photos were taken by authorities in his South African home not long after he fatally shot his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.
The Associated Press described the two photos in detail, noting that in the first one the muscular athlete is shirtless and standing in his prosthetics facing the camera. There are blood stains up to his knees and his shorts are also bloodied, yet his chest appears to be clean of any blood. The second photograph shows Pistorius from the waist up and from the left side, with the blood visible on his shorts and parts of his body.
Before court was adjourned for the weekend, former police commander G.S. van Rensburg testified against the defendant, but may have actually aided the defense when speaking about the botched investigation and handling of evidence at Pistorius’ home.
The sprint runner is accused of murdering Steenkamp on Valentine’s Day 2013 after the two had an argument. Pistorius has plead not guilty and maintains that he shot the model after mistaking her for a dangerous intruder.
