A woman who called police for help after being assaulted by her boyfriend was then sexually assaulted by a responding officer.
According to the Detroit Free Press, authorities have said that when Police Officer Deon Nunlee responded to the domestic violence call, he allegedly took the woman into an upstairs bedroom and sexually assaulted her.
“I’m troubled,” Detroit Police Chief James Craig said on Friday. “Certainly, this is the type of criminal misconduct that should never happen by any member of this department, or any department for that matter.”
CBS Detroit reported that on Oct. 30 at about 3 a.m. Nunlee and his partner responded to the call.
Prosecutors believe that while keeping the 31-year-old victim and her boyfriend separate from one another to get both their sides of the story, Nunlee took complete advantage of being alone with the woman and even threatened to return later that night.
The 40-year-old officer was charged for the alleged incident and held on a $50,000 bail.
