President Obama will be making an important speech to a class of graduating seniors come this June. The Worcester Technical High School is hosting the president as their commencement speaker for the class of 2014 graduation June 11 at the DCU Center arena.
After reaching out to the school himself through email, President Obama asked if they were interested in having him as their commencement speaker, reported The Boston Globe. President Obama had been imrpressed with the success of the students and asked to help celebrate the seniors. The school did not pass up this opportunity, however, asked that the students be told first.
This follows a year of success for the vocation school that had been struggling with poor performance. Rising through national rankings, Worcester received a Blue Ribbon nomination by the US Department of Education. Their principal, Sheila Harrity, was awarded national principal of the year in 2013.
As recently reported, three days following this commencement speech the president will address the graduating class of 2014 at the University of California, Irvine, June 14.
