Columbus Short, who has starred on ABC’s Scandal since season one, was arrested Wednesday on a felony battery charge.
Deadline reports that Short was arrested by the Claremont Police Department on a warrant. He was then released on $50,000 bail.
The arrest follows reports that the actor was involved in a bar fight on March 15 in Los Angeles at an engagement party. He allegedly left the other person unconscious. He has been charged with a count of felony battery, which could come with a four-year prison sentence if convicted.
His arraignment is expected in the next 30 days.
TMZ reports that the actor does have a violent history. Back in February, he allegedly attacked his wife in front of his children and was charged with spousal battery. He pleaded not guilty earlier this week, but prosecutors might charge him for child abuse since the children were watching.
Production on Scandal is not expected to be affected. The network has not commented on Short’s arrest.
