Former NBA basketball star Shaquille O’Neal is reportedly under investigation for an alleged assault that took place at the Turner Studios in Atlanta.
WSB-TV in Atlanta obtained a police report, but notes that O’Neal has not been charged with a crime. However, the Atlanta Police Department did confirm that he is under investigation for an alleged incident that happened at Turner Studios, where O’Neal works as a commentator for TNT’s NBA coverage.
“(The co-worker) alleged Shaquille O’Neal tackled him to the ground causing injury to his back while they were at work at Turner Studios,” Sgt. Greg Lyon of the Atlanta Police Department told WSB-TV.
The incident happened back on May 19, 2013. The co-worker, Robert Williams, claims that O’Neal punched and tackled him and fell on top of him. Although Young suffered serious injuries, Lyon could not tell WSB-TV the extent of them.
According to TMZ, Williams did tell Turner Security about the incident, but declined to file a police report until July 2. Williams was apparently a camera operator for Inside the NBA.
“This was nothing more than horseplay. No one intended for anyone to get injured,” O’Neal’s attorney told WSB-TV.
As for Williams’ attorney, he told the Atlanta station that Williams is still recovering after surgery. “However, he does state emphatically, that the permanent injuries he received were not the result of participation in any form of 'horseplay,’” the attorney added.
