A mentally ill New York City man attacked and killed his father and seriously injured his mother after a domestic dispute Tuesday morning.
According to the New York Post, authorities said that Anthony Powe, who suffers from schizophrenia, butchered his 71-year-old father with a pair of scissors and severely injured his 56-year-old mother in a gruesome attack before neighbors heard screams and called police.
When authorities arrived at the Manhattan apartment they found a grisly scene and noticed that the 27-year-old had fled on foot.
The New York Daily News reported that police caught up with Powe shortly after his predawn rampage on the other side of Central Park and arrested him without incident.
Powe’s sister Rochelle said that her parents tried to support her brother despite his violent outburst that prompted them to call police to their apartment at least eight other times.
"He heard voices in his head. He had to stay on his medications," she said. “Once he realizes what he did, he's going to freak out."
Charges against Powe are pending.
