Sony Pictures Entertainment let everyone at the company's Interactive division go on Monday, with the possibility of more cuts to follow over the next two years.
The Interactive division had over 70 employees, reports Variety. Sony Pictures Interactive primarily was focused on online marketing and social presence for Sony's products.
SPE spokesman Charles Sipkins said, "We are continuously evolving the business to make SPE more efficient and competitive."
With Sony Pictures Interactive now cut back, online promotion for such films as The Amazing Spider-Man will likely be handed over to outside ad agencies.
The announcement of layoffs came only a few days after reports of cost-saving measures in the works were first reported. Many who worked at Sony in Hollywood could tell the layoffs were coming after the company brought in Bain & Co. to look into where best to cut costs.
The layoffs come after a mixed 2013 where films like After Earth and White House Down were costly mistakes, but others, such as American Hustle and Captain Phillips, did well.
