A 16-year-old has been arrested on charges of criminal trespassing after it was discovered he had slipped into the One World Trade Center and made it up to the antenna with a camera.
The New Jersey resident, Justin Casquejo, used a small hole in the construction fence around the skyscraper to enter the construction area, reports Reuters. After using some scaffolding to gain access to the building on the sixth floor, he used an elevator up to the 88th floor.
Casquejo took the stairs the rest of the way until he reached the antenna on the 104th floor. The security guard on duty at the time was reportedly asleep, but Port Authority spokesman Joseph Pentangelo wouldn't confirm.
He simply said, "I'm going to characterize it as 'inattentive,'" and added the guard was let go.
According to the New York Daily News, the teenager was found by a Port Authority officer after he made it to the 104th floor.
Chief Security Officer Joseph Dunne released a statement noting that this trespass will be used to "reassess our security" and that they "take security and these types of infractions extremely seriously and will prosecute violators."
Reuters notes that Casquejo's since-removed Facebook page showed the teen was into parkour liked to take pictures with the skyscraper in the background.
