Top 10 Movies Featuring New York City

New York is the best city there is in this world in my opinion, but maybe I’m biased. People flock to New York to fall in love, to make their dreams come true and to make a name for themselves or their families. New York is full of history and memories that last a lifetime. The museums, libraries, and churches that landmark so many corners are beautiful structures that leave one in awe. This is why directors and producers fill the streets each year to film so many amazing movies. Tons of movies are filmed in this beautiful city every year but not all of them are so great. Have you ever watched any of these movies daydreaming what it would be like to be one of these characters? I have compiled a list of the movies that I believe still stand out over time, although there are so many more!

10. Coyote Ugly

Violet, a shy singer/songwriter from Jersey breaks away from her suburban life to see what the dog eat dog city can offer her. She finds Coyote Ugly, which brings this bar into American Culture. She overcomes her shyness and stage fright, finding out that she can conquer whatever life throws her.

9. Home Alone 2: Lost in New York

Kevin McCallister is at it again. This time he gets on the wrong flight while running through the airport with his family. He follows a man that looks like his father and ends up alone in New York City. His old nemeses from last year's Christmas adventures just so happen to arrive in the city at the same time. They play their game of cat and mouse all throughout central park and a fictional toy store. Definitely a classic for any age.

8.13 Going on 30

If you say you have never seen this movie or do not like it, then you are just lying to yourself. Jennifer Garner plays Jenna Rink, an awkward 13-year-old girl who hates where she is in life. She magically becomes the 30-year-old version of herself with the help of some wishing dust. The 30-year-old Jenna is an employee for her favorite magazine, has an NHL player as her boyfriend, and her best friend is the former mean popular girl. She quickly learns that she grew up to be a person she isn't proud of and, in the end, when she is back to being 13, she appreciates life for what it is.

7 Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist

A love-struck boy runs around the city following his favorite band, trying to forget about his ex who broke his heart. He ends up meeting Norah in this endeavor and they discover they are kindred spirits and possibly even soul mates. They have some crazy adventures along the way with crazy exes and drunk friends. This one night changes both of their lives and lets them rediscover hope and love.

6. The First Wives Club
Four of the greatest actresses that the industry has to offer (Goldie Hawn, Bette Midler, Diane Keaton, and Maggie Smith) come together to show us what women scorned can do after one of their dear friends takes her life due to a cheating husband and a lavish lifestyle that doesn't fix the problems. They hit each ex where it hurts: their wallets. The women take back the power in their lives and put all the wealth toward starting a foundation to help other women going through divorces, having their husbands cheat on them, and other similar situations. Add in a great little musical moment, and Sarah Jessica Parker's early acting days, and it's a classic to watch over and over again.

5. Serendipity

Love, fate, and soul mates. This movie follows the lives of two individuals who meet and have an instant connection, but, because of Sara's superstitions, they part, never to meet again, or have their paths cross, until years later. Both are due to be married but something is holding them back. They search the city and country for a sign and they find each other on a snowy night on an ice rink in one of the city's parks. They realize that they are supposed to be together.

4. The Devil Wears Prada

A poor Midwestern aspiring writer becomes a big city, huge magazine mogul's personal assistant, and is verbally abused left and right. Life for Andrea isn't all about fashion, like the lives of her colleagues, but she has to eventually conform to show Miranda, the dragon lady boss, that she can fit in and do a top notch job, even if the expectations are impossible. Andrea begins to live up to her potential and begins to earn Miranda's respect, but her success comes at the cost of her relationships and loss of her ethics. In the end, she realizes that staying true to herself is the best way to get where she wants to be in life.

3. Cruel Intentions

This twisted story of love, lust, and hate shows some of the hidden secrets families really hide. Sebastian and Katherine are spoiled step-siblings who have a lustful relationship. They make evil bets, expose others' secrets, and use sex for everything. Sebastian meets a pure, innocent girl, and he and his step-sister take it upon themselves to destroy her, but, in the process, he falls in love with this girl. Katherine won't have it and does everything in her power to ruin it. In the end, love wins, but Sebastian meets an untimely death. Certainly a guilty pleasure to watch.

2. Sex and the City

Carrie and her girls are back after the series ends. Carrie and Big are finally getting married. We follow the journey of planning, the trials and tribulations of Miranda and Steve's marriage, Charlotte and Harry's new life with a child, and finding out that Charlotte has finally gotten pregnant. Then there's Samantha, trying to make her young lover happy, going between coasts and navigating it to the end. We laugh, we cry, we yell and, in the end, we love.

1. Breakfast at Tiffany's

Who doesn't love this timeless tale of a girl who just wants to be someone else, with a fabulous life and no problems? Oh Holly Golightly how we love thee. If we all live believing that Tiffany's can fix everything, life would be far more glorious than ever. Put on a little black dress and some pearls whenever you have a bad day and take a walk to Tiffany's.
