The sequel to Universal’s surprise hit Ride Along will hit theaters in January 2016. The new film will reunite Kevin Hart and Ice Cube.

Variety reports that Ride Along 2 will hit theaters on Jan. 15, 2016, which is the start of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend. Tim Story, who directed the first film, will also helm the second.

Ride Along’s immediate success almost guaranteed that the film would get a sequel. Universal started getting the pieces in place last month. Deadline reported at the time that writers Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi had been tasked with trying to make the script more friendly to audiences outside the U.S. to make sure the film could became an international hit.

The first film opened on Jan. 17 and went on to make $41.5 million over its first weekend, notes Box Office Mojo. It has made $130.5 million in North America, but only $10 million overseas. The cop comedy only cost the studio $25 million to make.

Will Packer is producing for Universal.
