A massive flood causes major damage in Washington

A damaging landslide killed three people and injured at least eight people Saturday.

According to CNN, the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office stated that the landslide destroyed at least 6 houses, and in addition to those dead, seven adults and a six-month-old child were sent to local hospitals with injuries.

Heavy rainfall, which measured at least 45 yards wide and accumulated for over a month, is to blame for the landslide.

The county strongly recommended those living in the north fork of the Stillaguamish River flood plain, from Oso to Stanwood, evacuate their homes as soon as possible.

"We are working on establishing shelters for those who have nowhere to go," said county spokesperson Rebecca Hover in a statement. "Until then, people should get to higher ground as soon as possible."

Yahoo News reported that blockage of the Stillaguamish River was caused by the mudslide, which added flooding to the mud issues. The highway was closed in both directions due to the issues.
