The former governor of New Jersey, Jon Corzine, is mourning the loss of his youngest son, Jeffrey Corzine. The 31-year-old son was found dead, a spokesperson for the family said Thursday.
“Mr. Corzine is obviously devastated by this tragic loss. We ask that all respect his family’s privacy during this very difficult time,” said Steven Goldberg, according to the New York Daily News.
Although details have not been released to the cause of his death, Corzine struggled with drugs and alcohol in the past. However, he was believed to be sober after seeking treatment at a well-known facility in Malibu, Calif.
An aspiring photographer, Corzine was the youngest of three children born to the politician and now ex-wife, Joanne Corzine. He was often seen on his father’s successful campaign trail towards becoming governor of New Jersey, and helped to aide his father after being injured in a car accident in 2007.
The current governor of New Jersey, Chris Christie tweeted his condolences to the family for their loss.
“My thoughts and prayers are with Governor Corzine, Joanne and the entire Corzine family on the tragic loss of Jeffrey.”
