Rapper 50 Cent, real name Curtis Jackson, has been ordered to pay $16 million in a failed partnership to produce his own line of headphones.
Jackson was ordered to pay Sleek Audio almost $4.5 million in attorney fees and an additional $11.7 million in damages. After he broke ties with the Bradenton, Fla. company in 2011, he went on to partner with Delray Beach-based company SMS Audio. Sleek claims he stole the designs when he joined SMS Audio and a judge at the U.S. District Court in Miami agreed.
The Get Rich or Die Tryin’ rapper and SMS Audio still sell the Street by 50 and Synch by 50 over-the-ear headphones, Bradenton Herald reports.
Jackson is still a partner with Sleek Audio, as indicated by the company’s most recent corporate filing.
According to CBS News, Jackson has many other business endeavors going on to pay the bills. He is returning to music with his latest album Animal Ambition this June.
