The How I Met Your Mother series finale has been one of the must discussed finales in a long time. If you’ve been an angry ball of stress over the ending, don’t fret—the sitcom has an alternate ending.
After leaving people across the world displeased and frustrated with an ending that killed the mother and placed Ted and Robin together after all those years, a “happier” ending was created by the writers of HIMYM.
Co-creator of the series, Carter Bays, announced the news on Twitter, saying that an alternate ending would be available on the season 9 DVD as well as the box set, reports Metro.
Update for those who've been asking: Alt #himym ending will be on s9 DVD and also in the series box set.

“16 days ago today we were in the HIMYM edit room, trying to decide between two very different endings,’ Bays tweeted. ‘We only shot one script, but through edit room magic we had two possible outcomes for the series. He continued to explain that they love and stand by the ending that they chose and that he hopes “we’re still friends.”
On Monday during the finale, fans finally found out how Ted met Tracy McConnel, “the mother” of his kids,—she died six years prior, crushing the hearts of millions. Ted reunited with Robin, with the approval of his children, after she spent years estranging herself from the group and chasing her career. It ends in typical Ted Mosby fashion and comes full circle, with Ted standing outside of Robin’s window, blue horn and all.
Fans took straight to social media platforms to express their discontent with the finale and some even signed a petition in order to get a different ending, according to The Huffington Post.
But series creator Craig Thomas defended their final piece of work by saying “We did a finale about life’s twists and turns and that is not always what happens…but THANKS,” according to Twitter.
We stand by what aired and we are proud of it. But you guys came on such a long journey with us -- we want to give you BOTH! #HIMYM
