Terry McGinnis rose again this weekend in a new short released by Warner Bros. and DC Comics. McGinnis was the successor to Bruce Wayne in the beloved animated series Batman Beyond.
The short film is only just over a minute, but it features a full story from artist Darwyn Cooke, the mastermind behind such classics as DC: The New Frontier. In it, Terry has to fight a modern day Batman using his futuristic suit. But there’s a surprising twist at the end.
Both Will Friedle and Kevin Conroy returned to voice McGinnis and Wayne, respectively, as they had done in the original series. Batman Beyond ran from 1999 to 2001 and told the story of a future Gotham City, where Wayne hands off the cowl to McGinnis.
This year marks the 75th anniversary of Batman, so DC is honoring all versions of the character. Cooke gave a nice nod to that at the end of the short.
The Batman Beyond short is one of the DC Nation films that will be airing on Cartoon Network during Teen Titans Go! on Wednesday nights.
