Benicio del Toro has reached the final negotiations to star in the upcoming Sicario which will be helmed by Denis Villeneuve.
Emily Blunt has been cast in the film and would star opposite, del Toro, Variety reported. Del Toro will be playing an assassin hired by the U.S. government.
The movie will tell the story of a female cop and two male Delta Force rangers who cross into Mexico on a mission to catch a drug lord. Upon crossing the board things heat up for the main characters as they realize they have entered a dangerous and unpredictable world.
Black Label Media will be producing the film, overseeing production will be Basil Iwanyk, Molly Smith, Trent Luckinbill and Edward McDonnell.
Indie Wire added that the movie is being written by Taylor Sheridan.
Del Toro already has a packed scheduled this year with upcoming films that include Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy and Paradise Lost which will feature him as drug lord Pablo Escobar.
