Blake Shelton has rewritten the record for the most consecutive No. 1 singles on the Billboard Country Airplay charts. His latest single "Medicine" with fellow Voice coach Shakira debuted at No. 1 on the charts.
This marks the 11th No. 1 single for Shelton, Billboard reported.
This single with Shakira helps Shelton to break out of his tie with fellow country music superstar Brad Paisley who had 10 consecutive No. 1s from 2005 to 2009.
"Medicine" debuted at No. 57 on the Country Airplay charts and is the 35th entry for the "Boys Round' Here" singer and the first entry for Shakira. The single is featured on her latest album and the single will likely be entering the Billboard Hot 200 charts this week.
Shakira discussed working with her fellow Voice coach and said that the single really blended well with the other tracks on the record. "The acoustic guitars, that type of narrative, songs that have a traditional structure. And I said to [Shelton], 'I want to do that type of song.' When I wrote ['Medicine'], I didn't know what direction to go in and I did, like, eight versions … dance, pop. But, I said, no, this is a country song," said Shakira.
Radio.com reported that the Shakira and Shelton will be performing the single for the first time during the ACM Awards.
