Actors James Franco and Kate Hudson are celebrating their birthdays today, April 19.
James Franco, 36
Actor, director, screenwriter and producer James Franco turns 36 today. Franco's first paid role was in a Pizza Hut commercial. His breakout role was as Daniel Desario in the NBC series Freaks and Geeks. He made his film debut in a minor role in Never Been Kissed. He was cast as the title role in the 2001 television film James Dean. He won a Golden Globe and was nominated for an Emmy and SAG award.
Franco gained worldwide success with his role as Harry Osborn in Spider-Man. He went on to star in more films, including City by the Sea, Spider-Man 2, Tristan & Isolde, Flyboys, Spider-Man 3 and Milk. Franco starred in the 2008 stoner comedy, Pineapple Express. He received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Actor in a Musical or Comedy. He also starred in the comedies Your Highness and This is the End.
Franco portrayed real-life mountain climber Aron Ralston in the film 127 Hours. He received praise from critics for his performance, and the film was a commercial success. Franco was nominated for a Golden Globe, Academy Award and a SAG award.
Franco recently starred in Disney's Oz the Great and Powerful. He made his Broadway debut in the 2014 production of John Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men.
Kate Hudson, 35
Actress and director Kate Hudson turns 35 today. Hudson started her career appearing in a few lesser known films. Her breakthrough role was as Penny Lane in Almost Famous. She received a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress, as well as an Academy Award nomination. She went on to star in the box office hit How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days alongside Matthew McConaughey.
Hudson went on to star in films including Raising Helen, The Skeleton Key, You, Me and Dupree, Fool's Gold, Nine, Something Borrowed and Bride Wars. In 2007, Hudson directed the short film, Cutlass, starring Kurt Russell, Dakota Fanning, Chevy Chase and Kristen Stewart. Hudson has also appeared in the FOX series Glee.
Hudson is engaged to Muse frontman Matthew Bellamy, and they have one son. Hudson also had a son from her previous marriage to Chris Robinson, the frontman of The Black Crowes.
