The sequel to the widely popular Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, titled Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon II: The Green Destiny, will be shot in New Zealand and China later this year.
Even though this is being called a sequel, this film will be a prequel to the Ang Lee-directed film.
The movie will be directed by Yuen Woo-ping, who is a veteran martial arts performer and worked on the original film in 2000 as a fight choreographer, Variety reported. The script is being written by John Fusco.
Only two weeks of the production schedule will be taking place in China; the rest of the principal photography will be taking place in New Zealand.
There are many benefits to a large film shooting in New Zealand. This unlocks many production incentives that had been introduced at the start of this month. In this country, a credit is available that gives back 20 percent of local expenditures; under the old rules, films could only receive a 15 percent rebate.
BBC reported that the 2000 drama remains the most successful Chinese-language film of all time.
