Daily Wrap of All Things for April 23: 'The Casual Vacancy,' Chelsea Manning and 'It's a Small World'

By Samantha Ravenscroft,

Here’s our daily wrap for Wednesday April 23:

Back when the book The Casual Vacancy by J.K. Rowling was released, the BBC started planning a miniseries based on it. It has now been announced that HBO will be joining the BBC on the project. Rowling will also be working closely on the project.

The series will air on HBO in the U.S. and on the BBC in the U.K.

Bradley Manning, found guilty of leaking government documents to WikiLeaks in 2013, has been allowed to legally change her name to Chelsea Manning. A hearing was held today to decide whether or not Manning would be considered a woman. The hearing only lasted a minute. Manning is currently serving a 35 year sentence at Fort Leavenworth for her crimes.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the popular Disney ride “It’s a Small World.” To help celebrate the event, a movie based on the ride is in the works. The film will be directed by Jon Turteltaub and it will be written by Jared Stern.

This is not the first time Disney has created a movie based on a ride at their parks. The most notable include Pirates of the Caribbean and Haunted Mansion.
