Drake drafted as 2014 ESPY host

By Kyle Lubelski,

Drake will host this year’s ESPY awards for ESPN in July.

According to MTV, the official ESPY Twitter account announced Drake as the host of its 22nd televised event. Each year, ESPY praises the athletic prowess of individuals and teams and has welcomed hosts like Justin Timberlake, Samuel L. Jackson and most recently, Jon Hamm.

Drake accepted the title graciously, tweeting, “Honored to be this year’s @ESPYS host @espn 7.16.2014 #ESPYS #NWTS.”

The Hollywood Reporter notes that the 27-year-old rapper surely is the right candidate for the job, since he is an avid sports fan and a member of the executive committee of the Toronto Raptors, his hometown NBA team. In January, Drake took on a different hosting gig on Saturday Night Live, where he performed in hilarious skits.

With his world tour ending, Drake will have time to prepare for the July 16 event. The 2014 ESPY Awards will take place at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles, airing on ESPN at 9 p.m.
