Variety reported that some early observers are putting the film at making closer to $70 million. Early showings of the film will be taking place for critics and the press in the next few weeks. Depending on word of mouth and early reviews, the film is likely to see an increase in box office revenue.

The Hollywood Reporter added that the film cost the studios over $160 million to produce and that the hope would be a successful first film which could spin off into a franchise.

Director, Gareth Edwards has said that his goal with this film was to capture the iconic feel that older Japanese Godzilla movies put on screen effortlessly.
