Greta Garbo, Marlene Dietrich series will be Annapurna Pictures' first TV venture

Megan Ellison’s Annapurna Pictures is venturing into television with a project that pays tribute to two of the most iconic women of Old Hollywood. Ellison, who co-produced two Best Picture nominees in 2013, will be developing a project about the lives of Marlene Dietrich and Greta Garbo.

The untitled project was written by True Blood’s Angela Robinson and The L Word’s Alex Kondracke, reports Variety. The two also worked on Hung. Ellison is executive producing and Stephen Feder is overseeing for the studio. No director or cast has been set.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the project will cover Garbo and Dietrich relationships with everyone from John Gilbert to John Wayne. Mercedes de Acosta, Tallulah Bankhead, Alla Nazimova, Barbara Stanwyck, Cary Grant and more will also be in the series.

Annapurna and Ellison helped produce both David O. Russell’s American Hustle at Sony and Spike Jonze’s Her at Warner Bros. Both films were nominated for the Best Picture Oscar, making Ellison the first woman to be nominated for the award twice in one year. Their next awards contender is Foxcatcher.
