HBO comedies 'Veep,' 'Silicon Valley' renewed

HBO announced on Monday that its two Sunday comedies, Veep and Silicon Valley have been renewed already.

Both shows are only three episodes into their current seasons, but HBO decided to renew them early as they have done fairly well in the ratings following on the heels of Game of Thrones. Variety reports that the two comedies join the already renewed Girls and Looking.

Veep has been renewed for a fourth season and freshman comedy Silicon Valley its second.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, both Veep and Silicon Valley have done well in their first two episodes in the ratings. The ratings for the most recent Sunday night episode have not been released yet.

HBO prefers to look at how the shows do spread across all its viewing platforms, HBO, HBO Go, On Demand, and both have done well there. Veep's third season premiere averaged 1 million viewers, remaining consistent with how the show finished its second season.

Silicon Valley averaged about 2 million viewers for its initial debut episode, which was the most for an HBO comedy since 2009's debut of Hung. The freshman comedy is helped by having GoT as a lead-in.

HBO has three new comedies, Togetherness, The Brink and Ballers, that have still not debuted.
