Jessica Chastain to play Marilyn Monroe in Andrew Dominik's 'Blonde,' may do 'Mission: Impossible 5'

By Daniel S Levine,

One of Jessica Chastain’s trademarks, aside from being a talented actress, is her red hair. But she will likely have to go blonde in order to star as Marilyn Monroe in Andrew Dominik’s appropriately titled Blonde. She has also been linked to Mission: Impossible 5 this week.

Dominik, who has worked with Brad Pitt on Killing Them Softly and The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, has been working on Blonde at least since 2010. According to TheWrap, which first reported the casting news on Tuesday, it will be based on Joyce Carol Oates’ expansive novel on Monroe’s life. The intimate portrait of the actress was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Award in 2001.

The script was written by Dominik and Pitt’s Plan B is on to co-produce the long-gestating project. Naomi Watts was attached for awhile, but dropped out and Dominik said Chastain was his top pick.

Meanwhile, Indiewire notes that SchmoesKnow has reported that Chastain got a role in M:I 5. The fifth film in the franchise lead by Tom Cruise is set for release on Christmas Day 2015. Nothing has been confirmed on that front, though.

Chastain has earned Oscar nominations for The Help (which also required her to go blonde) and Zero Dark Thirty. She has several indie projects lined up, including Eleanor Rigby, Miss Julie and A Most Violent Year. She also stars in Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar with Matthew McConaughey.
