Johnny Depp’s action comedy ‘Mortdecai’ set for Feb. 6 release

Mortdecai is an upcoming action movie that will feature Johnny Depp as a roguish art dealer. The film has just received a release date from Lionsgate. The film will be opening in wide release on Feb. 6. 2015.

Depp's latest feature will be going up against Liam Neeson in his action thriller Run All Night from Warner Bros. and Seventh Son which stars Jeff Bridges, Variety reported.

Depp will be playing the main character in the film, who is in a race to recover a stolen painting that is rumored to contain the code of a lost bank account that was filled with Nazi gold.

The film was based off of novels by Kyril Bonfiglioli with the same title, The L.A. Times added.

When it comes to his film resume, Depp has not been turning in strong box office numbers. His past few films, including the most recent, Transcendence, have not done well at the box office. Even with a star-studded cast, Transcendence only made $11 million at the box office and had a larger opening in China compared to the United States.
