Leonardo DiCaprio commits to 'The Relevant' with director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu

By Daniel S Levine,

Leonardo DiCaprio has committed to make The Relevant, which will team him with acclaimed Mexican director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu.

The production will take place in September, reports Deadline, which first confirmed the news. Fox will release it in the fall of 2015. Paul Green is the executive producer, with Anonymous Content’s Steve Golin, Keith Redmon and David Kanter, Arnon Milchan, Gonzalez Inarritu and James Skotchdopole producing.

Gonzalez Inarritu and Mark L. Smith adapted the script from The Relevant: A Novel of Revenge by Michael Punke, notes TheWrap. It is set in the 19th century, with a fur trapper getting mauled by a grizzly bear. While laying near death, he is robbed. He manages to survive and goes on a quest for revenge.

The Relevant will be a New Regency production. New Regency is working with Fox Searchlight on Gonzalez Inarritu’s next film, Birdman, which opens on Oct. 17. RatPac Entertainment and Worldview Entertainment are co-financing.

DiCaprio is also interested in working with his Wolf of Wall Street co-star Jonah Hill again in a Richard Jewell film, but it looks like The Relevant will happen first. DiCaprio was just nominated for an Oscar for Wolf.

As for Gonzalez Inarritu, his credits include Biutiful and Babel.
