Captain America has held the No. 1 spot at the box office since its opening weekend three weeks ago, but this weekend, the newly released The Other Woman took over the title for No. 1.
According to Rentrak projections, The Other Woman pulled in more than $24 million this weekend.
The film pulled in more than what analysts expected, which was $17 million, notes USA Today.
The Other Woman was heavily advertised and featured a star-studded female cast that included Cameron Diaz, Leslie Mann, Kate Upton and rapper Nicki Minaj.
The comedy tells the story of a man’s wife who teams up with his two mistresses to ruin his life.
The movie received the worst reviews out of all new releases, but the movie was a hit with female viewers, notes the L.A. Times. Of those who went to see the film, 75 percent were women and they gave the film an average score of B+.
Captain America came in second place at the box office pulling in a little over $16 million.
Sony’s drama Heaven Is For Real took the No. 3 spot with $13.8 million for its second week out.
In the fourth spot was Rio 2, which is another 20th Century Fox film. Rounding out the top five is the newly released Brick Mansions, which featured the late Paul Walker.
