The 2013 World Series Champion Boston Red Sox were feted by President Barack Obama at the White House today. During the ceremony, Obama snapped a selfie with Series MVP David Ortiz, but Johnny Gomes’ outrageous jacket is the real topic of discussion.
Gomes, who was one of the driving forces behind the team’s decision to let their beards grow out during last season, made sure that this wasn’t just another boring White House ceremony for a championship team. According to Yahoo News, there were reports that he bought a red, white and blue jacket for every member of the team, but he was the only one to show up wearing one. He paired the jacket with white pants and his trimmed beard.

According to The Associated Press, Obama made note of how important this Sox team was to Boston, especially after the Boston Marathon bombings last April that left three dead and over 200 injured.
“The point is, Boston and the Red Sox were one," Obama said during the ceremony. “When they visited bombing victims in the hospital, when they played ball with kids getting cancer treatment, when they started a program to help wounded warriors get treatment at Mass General (Hospital), these guys were saying, 'we're all on the same team.’”
